What do you think of when you hear the words ‘corporate cybersecurity’? Many think an organization’s cybersecurity is handled by a room full of frazzled anti-social IT wizards who hover over laptops in a dimly lit room. The truth is, today’s cybersecurity could not be more different.
In the old days, cyber gurus would be called in to “fix” cybersecurity breaches and other sensitive situations after they had already taken place. But this approach does not work anymore.
Cyberattacks increased by 50% in 2021, with companies experiencing an average of 900 attacks per week (Check Point, 2022). This relentless assault has forced businesses to change how they think about cybersecurity and move away from the old practice of reacting to threats to today’s approach of taking strategic steps to prevent attacks before they happen.
As a result, businesses now spend an average of 10.9% of their IT budget to strengthen their digital defenses (Deloitte, 2020). Such a strategy covers technology, infrastructure, personnel, incident response and an overall long-term business plan.
Keeping data safe in the modern world requires investments in sophisticated cybersecurity management strategies with plans in place in advance of a cyberattack, and it saves companies a significant amount of stress and money in the long run.
