Davenport University’s academic faculty and staff gathered at the W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids campus on August 12, 2026, for the Wynalda Teaching and Learning Institute (TLI).

The annual internal conference is dedicated to supporting faculty in their teaching, scholarship and professional administrative work. The day began with a welcome from Interim President Anthony W. Anderson. He talked about the opportunity he has to serve Davenport in his new role.

“Leadership transitions are important moments in the life of any institution,” Anderson said. “They give us an opportunity to reflect on where we have been, where we are today, and where we hope to go together.”

Anderson stressed the word together throughout his remarks, and he pointed out that transitions invite us to think about the future with fresh energy and renewed purpose.

“Together, we can continue building a university that is innovative, student-centered and mission-driven,” he said. “Together, we can prepare graduates who are ready for meaningful careers and meaningful lives. Together, we can embrace change while remaining grounded in the values that define us. And together, we can continue transforming lives through education. That mission is too important to do any other way.”

Breakout sessions included topics on teaching techniques, mental health and well-being, artificial intelligence and more. 

The day came to a close with a faculty research showcase and reception. 

“This is a great opportunity before the start of fall classes to come together to learn from each other and get excited for the year ahead,” said Misty Davis, associate dean and director of graduate programs at Davenport. “We have wonderful, talented faculty colleagues at Davenport, and the energy is terrific. The day helps us and ultimately our students.”
