Davenport University buzzed with excitement as students, families, faculty, staff and alumni flooded campus for a variety of activities, including the annual Alumni Awards Celebration, a campus visit for prospective students, and the Panthers’ Homecoming win against Northern Michigan University.
Alumni Awards Celebration
Davenport’s Office of Advancement honored seven alumni at its annual Alumni Awards Celebration. The awardees exemplify the spirit, values and excellence of the university community through their achievements, leadership and service.
The celebration took place at the Donald W. Maine College of Business and included brunch, networking and the awards presentation. The award winners also showed their Panther spirit by joining other alums for a tailgate before the Homecoming game.
“Homecoming weekend is all about school pride and lifelong connections,” said Whitney Rivest, director of Alumni & Donor Engagement. “The energy on campus was simply electric—from welcoming alumni back to campus and honoring our award recipients to high-spirited tailgates and a dominant Panther win over Northern Michigan. It was a fantastic celebration of our Panther community.”
The following alumni were honored during the celebration for outstanding professional accomplishments in a field related to their degree and for demonstrating leadership and dedication to the profession. The recipients are also engaged in the vision of the Davenport college from which they graduated and its respective alumni community while exhibiting a commitment to public service.

Open House
Davenport hosted a unique and fun open house for prospective students and their families, in conjunction with homecoming festivities.
The day-long experience highlighted all that Davenport’s W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus has to offer and included complimentary tickets to the Homecoming football game.
A campus tour gave prospective students a glimpse of daily life at Davenport, showcasing the university’s apartment-style housing units, academic spaces, Student Activity Center and more. Visitors also explored Davenport’s degree programs and learned about available financial aid, scholarships and grants. During an informative panel discussion, current students shared firsthand perspectives on campus life and what it’s like to be a Panther. The visit also included a look at the university’s dining options, capped off with lunch in the main dining hall.
“The students were able to visualize their future at Davenport by seeing the smaller-sized classrooms, walking through the housing suites, and getting a sneak peek at Campus Life by attending a football game,” said Nathan Cunningham, assistant director of high school admissions.
Candice Romzek, MBA, MA, high school admissions director, said one of the most valuable parts of the day was giving students the opportunity to meet with professors, explore their degree interests and get a feel for what to expect in the classroom when they begin their Davenport journey. “This is a critical part of exploring a student’s future degree, especially at Davenport, where students begin taking major-specific classes the first year, so I’m happy we were able to give our visitors this insight.”
Homecoming game
Homecoming excitement was in full swing as the Panthers took the field at 2 p.m. against Northern Michigan University at Davenport’s Richard J. Pappas Stadium. Davenport’s home-field advantage and Homecoming momentum proved too much for the Wildcats, as the Panthers won 30-0 and kept their undefeated season rolling.
