Freebies and discounts for nurses and health care workers

With health care workers bearing the brunt of the coronavirus pandemic, people and businesses are stepping up to provide for these workers in any way they can. Several Michigan-based and nationally located companies are even offering free goods and services to health care workers during the pandemic. In honor of National Nurses Week, Davenport has pulled together a list of freebies and discounts to share with you — check them out below. Goods and services

From free shoes to free dry cleaning and tax services, several businesses are offering free goods and services to health care workers during the pandemic. Some of these offers are only good for a certain number of people at a time or until supplies run out, so don’t hesitate to take advantage of them if you’re in need.

AAA

AAA is offering free Roadside Assistance services to health care workers. Just call 1-800-400-4222 in case of a roadside emergency. Please note, services may not be available in every state.

chiliPAD

Health care workers can receive a new chiliPAD, a temperature-controlled mattress pad. This offer is good through May 31, as long as supplies last.

Crocs

The popular, comfort-first shoe company is donating 10,000 shoes a day to health care workers. Just go to the Crocs website by 12 p.m. ET for each day’s giveaway for your chance at getting your free pair.

H&R Block

During the month of May, frontline health care workers, EMTs, police officers and firefighters can file both federal and state tax returns for free with H&R Block’s Tax Pro Go. You will need to upload a photo of your work ID. See the link for more details.

Food

Food chains throughout Michigan and those available nation-wide are providing free food and drink options to health care workers. Most of these offers require an I.D. designating your health care worker status, but that’s all you need. Some of these deals do have limits per person and may not be available at all locations, so do a quick check at the location near you before ordering. And take advantage while you can because some of these deals end sooner than later.

Checkers & Rally’s

The fast food chain Checkers & Rally’s is offering free meals to health care workers. Just wear your uniform to receive a free small combo.

Krispy Kreme

Health care workers can get a dozen original glazed donuts for free through May 12.

Starbucks

Starbucks is offering health care workers free tall hot or iced coffees until May 31.

Volunteer travel and self-isolating

Certain airlines are offering free travel for healthcare workers who want to go to coronavirus hotspots and help out. No need to worry about how to pay for your stay if you decide to go or if you’re worried about spreading the virus to your family as several housing and hotel chains are offering free stays as well.

Delta

Though it’s not a vacation, Delta Airlines is trying to do its part by flying medical volunteers round-trip for free to the hardest hit states. Flights will be offered through June 30. Destinations are added weekly.

Hilton Hotels

Hilton is donating up to 1 million free hotel room nights across the U.S. to frontline healthcare staff who may need a place to sleep or isolate from their families during the pandemic. This offer is good until the end of May.

Special discounts

In additional to all of these freebies, several businesses are offering special discounts for health care workers, too.

Adidas

Health care workers receive 40% off purchases when ordering online.

Applebees

Health care workers will receive a 50% discount on any food purchase during the entire month of May.

Nike

Health care professionals can get a 20% discount when ordering online.

Skechers

Skechers is offering a 30% discount on shoes for health care workers throughout May.

The North Face

Health care workers can get a 50% discount on non-sale items on the company’s website.

Asics

In need of some new shoes? Medical professionals and first responders get 60% off any full-priced product.

Under Armour

First responders, health care workers, educators and others get 40% off all purchases. See website for all included professions.
