The West Michigan affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is hosting its tenth annual NAMIWalks event on October 3 at Davenport University’s W. A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus.
The event raises funds to support NAMI’s free programming and awareness of the mental health struggles people in our community face. It is open to the public.
“NAMIWalks is a nice gathering of people from the community who are invested in supporting family, friends and neighbors with mental health struggles,” said Neil Shepard, Ph.D., assistant professor. “It’s a beautiful event that brings people together for a wonderful cause.”
Those interested in participating or supporting Davenport’s team can click here and select “Pounce on Stigma @ DU.” Pounce is the university’s mascot.
Check-in begins at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m., participants will hear inspirational words from NAMI representatives, who will share more information about the organization and resources available to people living with mental illness.
Davenport’s dance team and spirit squad will get people warmed up with music and dancing, followed by the walk at 10 a.m. Davenport’s band will also join to provide musical encouragement along the walk route.
