Grant funding for Davenport University’s Veterans to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (VBSN) pathway has been extended for a fifth year to enable the work of the team to continue to progress. The first two students of DU’s VBSN pathway graduated in April, and both have passed boards and are now employed, giving the program a 100% pass rate and 100% employment rate!
With the extension, two new grant-funded staff members – Rachel Field, VBSN Research Associate, and Dana Hill, VBSN Advisor – have joined the team that includes Renita Elder Robinson, VBSN Faculty Coordinator, and Shawn Ellis, VBSN Admissions Recruiter.
Davenport University (DU) was the first university in Michigan to receive the VBSN grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The grant provides programmatic funding to enable medical military trained service members to receive academic credit for their previous training. Underway for four years, DU’s VBSN program has formed a cohort each year consisting of military service members who have had medical training and, in some cases, combat experience.
