Panther Baseball player Jonathan Cheshire was selected in the 36th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. He is the fifth Panther selected in the MLB draft over the years.
“It is an unforgettable experience and it is a dream come true,” Cheshire said. “I couldn’t have done it without the support from my coaches and fellow teammates.”
Cheshire was arguably one of the best relief pitchers in the entire NAIA this season, posting a record of 9-3 and recording 11 saves. He had an era of 2.21, pitched 105.2 innings and struck out 113 batters. Opponents batted only .227 against Cheshire this season and he walked only 15 batters. Cheshire finishes his career with a record of 18-8, an era of 2.44, 35 saves and 224 strikeouts during 254.1 innings pitched.
