The Mable Engle Nursing program was chartered into Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing during a ceremony held on March 30 at the W.A. Lettinga Campus. Forming the Psi Omicron Chapter, more than 30 staff and students were inducted into the global organization.
“Chartering a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International is by invitation only, and we’re honored to have been invited,” stated Dr. Karen Daley, Dean of DU’s College of Health Professions. “Davenport’s Psi Omicron Chapter is dedicated to providing valuable resources, connections and opportunities to staff and students and is truly making a difference in the future of healthcare. This achievement is the result of four years of diligent work by the nursing faculty lead by Amy Stahley, Associate Dean of Nursing, with the support of University administration.”
Including Davenport, there are 16 chapters in Michigan. In West Michigan, Ferris State, Hope College, Calvin College and Grand Valley State are considered a Chapter at Large for they are a combined chapter. Sigma Theta Tau International is dedicated to supporting nurses’ efforts to improve the health of the world’s people. It encourages nurses to strive for excellence in their nursing careers by providing scholarship opportunities for students and research funding for faculty.
