Students, family, friends, faculty, staff, and university leaders including President Richard Pappas and Provost Linda Rinker, gathered on April 6 for the Legal Studies Department’s annual Honors Reception. In her opening remarks, Dean of the Donald W. Maine College of Business, Pamela Imperato, congratulated students for their outstanding achievements and acknowledged the importance of that success. Students in the program were honored for induction into the Davenport chapter of the National Paralegal Honors Society, LEX,and were awarded certificates for passing national legal exams.
Students inducted earned a 3.75 overall grade point average during their course of study. This level of scholarship is especially noteworthy given the rigors of Davenport’s American Bar Association approved legal studies program. These students received certificates from the National LEX organization, membership pins, and purple honor cords to wear at graduation.
Faculty member, Diana Lamphiere, awarded certificates to the students who passed the National Association of Legal Support (NALS) Accredited Legal Professional (ALP) exam. Professor Lamphiere led the students though an examination review course that resulted in an 89% pass rate. Several DU Legal Studies students have taken this examination every year since 2010, and their pass rates have averaged almost 40% above the national pass rate!
Officers for next year’s Legal Studies student organization, LS@DU, were also announced; Sonia Kaur will serve as the organization’s President, while Austin Watrous will serve as Vice President.
