Principles of Data Warehousing is the first graduate-level online course at Davenport University to receive a Quality Matters Certification.
Quality Matters is an international organization that supports quality assurance and improvements in online education. QM Certification is awarded to online courses that meet the quality standards of the Quality Matters after an external peer review.
“We are very excited about this accomplishment and look forward to getting all the courses in our program QM certified,” said Dr. Gerald Nyambane, DU’s Data Analytics program director.
Principles of Data Warehousing introduces students to the concept of data warehouses and data integration architecture and explains the role they play in overall business intelligence and analytics strategy of an organization.
The course provides students with hands-on experience in combining structural and design elements with best practices for data governance and coding standards so that they can build high-level plans for implementing data warehouses and data integration systems for organizations.
“This course enabled me to study how the data could be channeled to build suitable blocks that are useful for storing and analytical purposes,” said Rajita Dnyate, a student at DU.
Students get a chance to work on a real-world project in which they construct their own data warehouse based on specifications given to them along with the cost estimates and budget constraints.
“This project was the highlight of the course,” Dynate said. “It allowed me to apply the knowledge that I gained from the course throughout the semester and made me explore solving a real-world problem.”
Dnyate believes this course helped her understand where and how the data is stored in an organization and its availability for reporting and analytics.
“I will always be grateful to DU for enabling me to explore a new and sought-after area of study,” Dnyate said.
