Davenport University will hold a College Savings Workshop on October 20 for those interested in learning how to cut college costs, maximize scholarships and get a head start on their career.
This event will be held at Davenport’s W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus, 6191 Kraft Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Sneden Auditorium. Registration is preferred, but not required. To register in advance, click here.
The evening will feature a presentation on early college credit and its potential to save students thousands of dollars. Attendees will hear from two current Davenport students who are making their degrees more affordable, and they can also choose from two breakout sessions. The first breakout session option will focus on financial aid. In this session, attendees will learn the basics of financial aid, work directly with Davenport’s financial aid experts and gain a clear understanding of the FAFSA process. The second breakout session option will show attendees how to write a standout scholarship essay. It will also explore Davenport’s academic scholarships and walk students through completing at least one scholarship application.
While the College Savings Workshop is geared toward high school students and their parents, current college students are also encouraged to attend to learn about available scholarships.
Maddie Buckler, Davenport senior high school admissions representative, said anyone interested in learning how to save money on their college education should attend.
“We will talk about FAFSA and early college credit, but we will also zoom in on scholarship opportunities,” said Buckler. “Those who attend this workshop will walk away with valuable knowledge, and I want students to know that it’s never too early to start applying for scholarships.”
