Davenport University is highlighting October’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Month by hosting its third annual free Cybersecurity Summit. Davenport is one of a select number of colleges in Michigan designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security.
This year’s summit will feature keynote speaker Matt Nelson, cybersecurity specialist at People Driven Technology. Attendees will hear about his experiences within the IT industry and learn more about the dynamic field of cybersecurity.
The Cybersecurity Summit will be held virtually on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 6-8 p.m. via Google Meet. Click here to learn more or to register.
Nelson will speak to professionals and students about building their brand in technology and security. Attendees will learn how visibility, credibility and authenticity can enhance skills and unlock opportunities in the high-demand field of technology.
In addition to his role at People Driven Technology, Nelson is also the founder and president of the West Michigan Cloud Security Alliance and the founder of CloudCon, a cybersecurity convention held each year at LMCU Ballpark. He also hosts the popular podcast Not Another Demo, which explores the world of cybersecurity vendors in an honest and open forum.
Organizers said those considering a career in cybersecurity and seasoned tech professionals will find great value in attending Davenport’s Cybersecurity Summit.
Jeff Martin, an instructor in Davenport’s College of Technology, said cybersecurity continues to be one of the fastest-growing segments of the IT industry, driven by the increasing frequency of cyber threats and a global shortage of skilled professionals.
“As organizations prioritize data and system protection, the demand for qualified cybersecurity experts continues to rise, with significant opportunities for growth and high compensation. Cybersecurity Awareness Month is the perfect time to explore these diverse, in-demand career paths and the critical role cybersecurity professionals play in safeguarding digital infrastructure,” said Martin.
In addition to the summit, Davenport is hosting two virtual Tech Talks. The first Tech Talk will include a deep dive into the future of cybersecurity. It will be held on October 15 from 5:30-6 p.m. and will feature Carter Reincke from Abnormal AI. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of evolving cyber threats and how AI-driven solutions are helping organizations stay one step ahead of attackers. Click here to learn more or to register for this session. The second Tech Talk will focus on practical strategies to protect one’s personal data and identity. It will be held on October 29 from 12-12:30 p.m. and will feature Derek Duzan, an admissions representative for Davenport. Click here to learn more or to register for this session.
