Davenport University hosted the prestigious Business Professionals of America (BPA) conference recently, where student leaders from across the state competed and showcased their skills in business, leadership and technology. Nearly 100 students represented seven colleges and universities, and the competition was fierce. Davenport University students secured a total of 17 first-place, 17 second-place and 13 third-place victories, and now are headed to the national competition in Florida this May.

All Davenport students who competed met the state competition requirement to qualify for Nationals, an outstanding testament to their preparation and dedication. These students will now set their sights on the National BPA Conference in Orlando, May 7-11, where they will compete on a national stage against the best student leaders from across the country.

“We are incredibly proud of our students and their exceptional achievements at this year’s BPA conference,” said Scott Gumieny, Davenport’s BPA Advisor. “Their hard work, dedication, and passion for business and leadership have truly set them apart, and we look forward to seeing them represent Davenport University at Nationals.”

The mission of Business Professionals of America is to develop and empower student leaders to discover their passion and change the world by creating unmatched opportunities in learning, professional growth and service. The conference serves as a platform to prepare students for the business world by advancing their leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.

 Among the standout Davenport competitors were:

• Matthew Gaydos, who achieved an incredible six first-place victories.
• Skyla Gang, who earned first place in every event she competed in.
• A sweep in the Computer Network Technology category, where Davenport students, Alex Spicer secured first, followed by Jacob Dennis in second, and in third place, Abigail Braden.
