Leaders from Davenport University and Steelcase solidified their joint commitment to higher education and talent development with a signing ceremony held at the Steelcase headquarters in Grand Rapids. The agreement, signed June 17, 2025, provides scholarship opportunities for Steelcase employees and their family members.
Steelcase is a global design and thought leader in the world of work. It employs more than 11,000 people who could take advantage of Davenport’s Gold Education Scholarship. Steelcase qualifies for the Gold level because it is a Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) Gold-level Veterans-Friendly Employer.
The Gold Education Scholarship offers up to $8,000 per year in scholarships to Steelcase employees and up to $6,500 per year to their spouses and children to the age of 29. There is also a 20% discount on professional development certificates and certifications through the Institute of Professional Excellence (IPEx).
Davenport University President, Richard J. Pappas, Ed.D., attended the signing ceremony and said the goal of the Corporate Education Scholarship Program at Davenport is to create opportunities for Michigan-based companies to invest in the professional growth of employees.
“We are pleased to partner with Steelcase, a leader in West Michigan and around the world, to champion talent development through a Davenport education,” said Pappas. “This scholarship program provides a tremendous opportunity not only for Steelcase employees, but for their family members as well. Investing in lifelong learning is critical for career growth and personal fulfillment.”
The executive director of Davenport’s IPEx, Daniel Rundhaug, Ph.D., also attended the signing ceremony, along with Isabel Medellin, vice president for Talent at Steelcase.
“At Steelcase, we believe in investing in our employees and their families,” said Isabel Medellin, Steelcase vice president for talent. “This partnership with Davenport University empowers our employees with educational opportunities that foster career growth and enrich our communities.”
Davenport University has flexible programs for adult learners to earn degrees or certificates in more than 100 areas. Many courses are offered online, and Davenport offers both 7-week and 15-week semesters.
