Leaders from Davenport University and Rockford formalized their commitment to higher education and workforce development with a signing ceremony held at Rockford Construction’s headquarters in downtown Grand Rapids. The agreement, signed June 22, 2026, provides scholarship opportunities for Rockford employees and their family members.
Rockford is one of Michigan’s leading construction, development and property management firms and employs more than 350 people who could take advantage of Davenport University’s Corporate Education Scholarship.
The program offers up to $8,000 per year in scholarships to Rockford employees and up to $6,500 per year to their spouses and children to age 29. There is also a 20% discount on professional development certificates and certifications through the Institute of Professional Excellence (IPEx).
Davenport University President Richard J. Pappas, Ed.D., attended the signing ceremony and said the goal of the Corporate Education Scholarship Program is to create opportunities for companies to invest in their employees and the future.
“We believe that lifelong learning is critical for career development and personal growth,” said Pappas. “We are pleased to partner with Rockford, a company that has helped shape communities throughout Michigan, to ensure an educated and productive workforce. This partnership also provides opportunities for employees’ family members, creating ongoing opportunities and strengthening our communities.”
The agreement was signed by Pappas and Shane Napper, president and CEO of Rockford.
“Davenport University has been a valued partner of Rockford for many years, and we’re proud to build on that relationship in a way that supports our people and their families,” Napper said. “This scholarship opportunity reflects our shared commitment to growth, education and strengthening the future workforce in the communities we serve.”
Daniel Rundhaug, Ph.D., executive director of Davenport’s Institute of Professional Excellence (IPEx), also attended the ceremony. Davenport University offers flexible programs for adult learners to earn degrees or certificates in more than 100 areas of study. Many courses are offered online, and Davenport offers both seven-week and 15-week semesters.
