You never know where you’ll see a Davenport University student. A group from Davenport’s Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program wound up being captured in a documentary while attending the National Great Lakes Fruit & Vegetable EXPO last semester.
The documentary, “Detroit: The City of Chefs III Great Lakes Expo,” focuses on Michigan’s agricultural bounty and highlights prominent chefs, urban farming and farm-to-table cuisine. The documentary will be released this fall. You can watch the trailer here.
At the expo, the students interacted with members of the agricultural community by:
- Delivering evidence-based arthritis screens
- Educating participants on joint protection and safe body mechanics to prevent pain or injury during functional activity
- Fabricating homemade thermal modalities for participants’ pain management
According to Jennifer Bingman, faculty member and interim occupational therapy (OT) department chair at Davenport,This experience reinforced the students’ clinical knowledge and further prepared them for clinical fieldwork and professional practice in various health care settings. It also gave them the opportunity to work with people from diverse cultural and demographic backgrounds.
