Davenport University’s annual Welcome Mixer recently brought students from diverse backgrounds together for an evening of connection, conversation and community.

Since its launch in 2017, the event has fostered a welcoming and inclusive environment at Davenport, giving students a chance to meet new people and celebrate their unique backgrounds.

Held in the W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus’s Multicultural Lounge, the Welcome Mixer was a one-stop-shop gathering where students could interact with faculty, staff, members of Davenport’s administration, including Interim President Anthony Anderson, and, of course, other students. In addition to making meaningful connections, attendees also enjoyed appetizers and beverages and learned about available campus resources and cultural groups they can join.

“The main purpose behind the Welcome Mixer is to help students form genuine connections,” said Student Life Director Natalie Wagner, Ph.D.

To help facilitate those connections, students were invited to participate in a Get to Know You Bingo activity that sparked conversations and helped everyone get acquainted. 

“We want all students to know that they belong at Davenport, and we want them to feel supported and valued,” Wagner said. “I think the students who attended this year enjoyed themselves and were very engaged, which is exactly what we were hoping for.”
