Davenport University’s W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus will host Girls Rock IT: Coding for Good, a one-day event on Saturday, March 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
This event is organized by the Michigan Council of Women in Technology (MCWT) Foundation and invites girls, grades 2-8, to explore coding and game development through hands-on activities using Scratch and App Inventor. Girls Rock IT is designed to inspire young girls to explore technology and develop skills in a fun, interactive environment. Volunteers from MCWT will lead the activities, and parents are invited to attend a special program featuring guest speakers. Girl Scouts who attend will earn a technology badge.
“Davenport University understands the importance of preparing a diverse workforce for all of our programs, especially in the IT field,” said Amy Mansfield, dean of Davenport’s College of Business and College of Technology. “The Girls Rock IT event is a great opportunity for young girls who want to explore this in-demand field and learn about all of the different career paths that are available to them.”
