Educators at Davenport University take every opportunity to connect students with industry experts to expand upon what is being taught in class. Last week’s Accounting and Finance Forum on the Grand Rapids W.A. Lettinga Campus is just one example of this effort in action.
Grant Lee, chair of the accounting, finance, and human resource management department, hosted the event with his honors students to provide those in the accounting and finance programs an opportunity to learn more about their chosen professions.
Lee said the event featured speakers from Rehmann, Hungerford, Plante Moran, Perrigo, and Gordon Food Service.
“Our speakers, who are industry leaders in our area, were all impressed with the Davenport students who attended,” said Lee. “The university is a leader in connecting students with employers with events like this and with internships. This gives our students a leg up when they graduate.”
Students who attended the forum learned what it is like to work in the accounting and finance industries, the future of the professions and possible career and internship openings.
The forum concluded with a networking opportunity, which allowed students to have more in-depth one-on-one conversations with the experts and to hand out resumes.
