Davenport recognized as one of Michigan’s Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Schools and receives Military Credit Equivalency Grant

Davenport University has long been committed to supporting and enabling the success of veterans. In fact, the mission of Davenport’s Military and Veteran Services is to provide a path of minimal resistance for service members, veterans and their dependents to reach their educational and career goals.

That’s why Davenport’s admissions representatives, advisors and certifying officials work together to ensure that students receive accurate and comprehensive guidance surrounding the university process from application to graduation and beyond.

Davenport University’s dedication to carrying out this mission in service of our veterans and their families has been recognized by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Achieving gold-level status as one of Michigan’s Veteran-Friendly Schools

For our commitment to supporting the needs of student veterans and their dependents, Davenport has been recognized as a gold-level member of Michigan’s Veteran-Friendly School program. Gold-level status is achieved by meeting six or more of the program criteria listed below. Davenport’s efforts to support and serve veterans meet all seven criteria.

  1. Established process for identification of current student veterans
  2. Veteran-specific website at https://www.davenport.edu/military-veteran-services
  3. Active student-operated veterans club or association – Student Veterans of America
  4. Veteran-specific career services, resources, advising and/or outcome monitoring
  5. On-campus veteran’s coordinator and/or designated staff point of contact
  6. System to evaluate and award credit based on prior military training and experience
  7. Monitoring and evaluation of student veteran academic retention, transfer and graduation rates

Davenport also provides 100 percent military benefit participation in the V.A. GI Bill®, Yellow Ribbon, Federal Tuition Assistance and Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance programs. In addition, we offer 20 percent tuition discounts to actively serving members of the armed forces, retirees, veterans with discharges other than “dishonorable,” their partners and their dependents up to age 24.

DU receives the MVAA Military Credit Equivalency Grant

The MVAA also awarded Davenport the Military Credit Equivalency Grant, which will further enable us to help veterans make the most of their military education. The grant provides one-time funding to develop and standardize a process for veterans to receive credit equivalencies for military experience.

This program aims to ease the transition from military to civilian life by translating skills acquired in the military into college credits as well as to pave the way to in-demand career fields such as health care, information technology and business.

As DU’s military-friendly programs continue to develop, we’ll keep you up to date on all that we’re doing to support our student veterans and service members.
