Diversity field trip expands cultural knowledge for students, faculty and staff

Davenport University’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is equipping and supporting faculty, staff, and students for inclusive excellence. DU aims to cultivate a community where similarities and differences are understood, respected, and valued.

DU strives to be a diverse and equitable University. We are proud and excited to be recognized for our efforts through various awards and recognition’s.

Each year the DEI group partakes in a diversity field trip where students, faculty, or staff are able to expand their cultural knowledge.

Twenty students and two staff participated in the Diversity Field Trip to the Greater Detroit area on October 17th where they visited multiple museums followed by a dinner.

The agenda included the Holocaust Museum (and a private presentation by a Holocaust survivor), the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Islamic Center, a walk through the Heidelberg Project, and dinner at the Blue Nile, an Ethiopian restaurant.

The Diversity Field Trip runs every October and planning has begun for the 2019 trip thanks to the Center for Campus Life, The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the Office of Experiential Learning.
