Etiquette dinner builds soft skills needed to succeed

Students can gain an edge in their future careers by attending the etiquette dinner hosted by Career Services from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 in the Sneden Center at the W.A. Lettinga Campus in Grand Rapids.

The event will provide networking opportunities and a three-course meal where attendees will learn about professional dining etiquette through the hilarious antics of Cindy Brown, Executive Director at Hello West Michigan. Students should attend in professional dress.

“The most important factor is the networking and interpersonal communication and a general knowledge of etiquette,” said Jennifer England, Career Coach. “So much business is conducted on golf courses and other social events, so it is important to know the etiquette.”

England said students will learn to maintain a professional conversation while eating and practicing the proper etiquette of ordering, passing items around the table, in what order to use all the silverware.

Networking will take place before the dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. Employees from organizations such as Farmers Insurance, Northwestern Mutual and Speedway will be participating.
