Do you have the competitive edge to land your next job?

Do you have the skills, experience, degree or certification that will help you stand out when it comes to beating out the competition to land your next job? With more individuals competing for open positions, it is more important than ever that your resume shows a competitive edge. How? Here are a few ideas.

Get certified

There are many professional development courses and certifications you can earn to enhance your skillset and make your resume stand out against the competition. Have you considered a certification for leadership? Or certifications specific to your field? Whether you’re in marketing, human resources, project management, health or accounting – there are courses you can take to certify your skillset and help you stand out from the competition.

Complete or earn a degree

Research shows that when you add a degree to your resume – whether you finish a degree you’ve already started or add a graduate degree – you increase your job prospects. According to a study by the Center on Education and the Workforce, college graduates see 57% more job opportunities than non-graduates. And, an estimated two-thirds of all jobs in the next year will require post-secondary education.

There are plenty of opportunities to help you navigate the costs of earning a degree as well. From employer-sponsored scholarships to those offered by universities themselves, there are options available to help make your degree more affordable.

Davenport University offers several scholarship options for students interested in earning their first degree or completing the one they’ve started. The university has partnered with employers to offer its Corporate Education Scholarship to company employees. Employer partners include DTE, Gordon Foods and Metro Health. New partners are being added all of the time. Davenport is also offering individuals laid-off or furloughed because of COVID-19, an $8,000 scholarship per year for four years.

Level-up your interview skills
